In July 2025, Auser Lecco has partnered with Irbema to offer 20 elderly people in the Lecco area the chance to try medical devices SiDLY elderly telecare.
After 10 months, the first results of the experimental project “Fewer alone and more secure”, funded by Fondazione Comunitaria del Lecchese, Acinque and Waldensian Church. The project's results were presented during a meeting at the Auser provincial headquarters in Lecco.

The telecare project for the elderly “Fewer alone and more secure"
Through the use of SiDLY bracelets, Auser staff and volunteers monitor – via a digital platform – the health status of the 20 fragile individuals involved, ensuring rapid interventions in case of need. The alerts generated by the devices – including the Automatic fall detection, reminders for taking medication and notifications of leaving home – are recorded on the platform and managed by an operator.
This remote care service for the elderly supports family caregivers during working hours, with active coverage from 7:30 AM to 6 PM.
Central is the role of VolunteeringWithout the contribution of Auser volunteers, it would not be possible to cover the entire care requirement. Volunteers also respond to the more practical needs of the elderly, such as accompanying them to the hospital or to the hairdresser.
The results: elderly people and caregivers satisfied
The data collected so far confirm the effectiveness of the service of Elderly telecare.
Among elderly people involved:
- The 77,8% declared that they found it convenient to wear the bracelet;
- The 44% He feels safer when he's home alone.
Even the Family caregiver they welcomed the project positively

What do the institutions say
The telemedicine project for the elderly has been widely approved by institutional and healthcare stakeholders in the region.
Claudio Dossi, President of Auser, highlighted the practical value of the device: «These devices give older people the chance to feel less lonely and more secure. They are a real help to family members, who can step away with peace of mind. The 60% of carers struggle to balance work and care: there are 7.3 million in Italy, 360,000 of whom are in Lombardy alone, and one in two is elderly themselves.».
The topic of work-life balance has been addressed Stefania Bolis, Head of Innovation SC ATSThe caregiver is often at work with thoughts of their loved one. This project responds to a real need for security. The caregiver can be at work and dedicate themselves to their own activities knowing that someone is looking after them. As ATS, we will collaborate to ensure the continuity of the initiative with Auser.
Institutions are also interested in growing the user base that will make use of the teleassistance service. Emanuele Manzoni, chairman of the council of representation of mayors in Lecco, has defined the device as «non-invasive, simple and useful», emphasising the importance of the union between new technologies and a culture of care.
Gianluca Peschi, Socio-Healthcare Director of ASST Lecco, concluded: «The real challenge is to delay the onset of age-related disability conditions for as long as possible. This trial covers an important part of this journey.».
Why we believe in telecare for the elderly
The project “Fewer alone and more secure”has recently gained visibility thanks to a TG Region Lombardia service, confirming how much the theme of teleassistance for the elderly is increasingly central in the Italian socio-health debate. And the numbers confirm it: in the coming years, the share of over 65 on the total population will oscillate between 25% and the 35%, making the search for scalable and technologically advanced solutions urgent.
For Irbema, supporting Auser Lecco's project with SiDLY telecare devices was also a choice of value. Indeed, since 1987, our mission has been to protect people and facilitate interactions, making a concrete contribution to their well-being.
The results of this trial confirm that we are on the right path. Collaboration between third-sector organisations, institutions, and private companies is the model upon which to build the response to one of the most significant demographic challenges of the coming decades.
