Solitary work e protection of isolated workers are increasingly debated topics and it is a duty for companies working in the field of occupational safety to make their own contribution to raising awareness on the subject.
Rock&Safe, a magazine that has become a symbol for security experts, interviewed our marketing specialist Marco Colzani answering the questions of Stefano Pancari addressed many of these issues and also proposed some practices solutions for the safety of workers.
Below are some excerpts from the interview:
What was it like to come into contact with these issues?
"The issues concerning the security sphere are very interesting and very varied. There are several contexts in which workers and people are at risk in their daily lives, and often they are not even aware that they are.
Solutions to defend workers are also very heterogeneous. In many cases, however, there is still little knowledge of what all the possible solutions are, often even on the part of experts.
For Irbema it is therefore important to educate and instruct on the possible risks that isolated workers face on a daily basis, proposing innovative solutions to avoid accidents and dangerous situations'.
Isolated workers: what devices does Irbema distribute to protect them?
"I man-down devices are the main solution proposed by Irbema to overcome this type of problem. The purpose of these systems is to send alarms to enable help to be activated as quickly as possible'..

"This happens not only in voluntarily pressing a button on the device, but also in autonomously if the worker is unable to raise alarms due to illness or injury. In fact, when the isolated person in question falls ill, falls or suffers an assault, the sensors that detect the incident send an alarm to the persons in charge of receiving it, who will activate the emergency team in a timely manner.
The sensors are activated when the device detects a bump or fall, or when the mandown or the 'no-movement', i.e. a period during which the wearer does not move for a pre-configured amount of time.
Avoiding false alarms is another key aspect. This is possible thanks to the initial configuration of the device, which is carried out paying the utmost attention to the sensitivity of the device and calibrating it according to the worker's needs and task'.
In terms of privacy, how do the devices perform?
"This is one of the central and most discussed points, and it is important to clarify that: the position of the worker is only sent when the alarm is triggeredIt is therefore not monitored at any time.
In many cases, when companies are very small and the isolated worker only works in a certain environment, there is not even a need for location devices because, once the alarm is sent, rescuers are sure to find the worker in his area of competence, which, being very restricted, favours immediate intervention.
Education is crucial: how does the company move towards customers or potential customers in this respect?
"Although Irbema's role is that of a distributor, we are aware that raising awareness and making a contribution to worker safety is really important. Indeed, through its website and social channels, the company seeks to provide valuable and informative content such as the article 'Health and safety at work in history' or content highlighting data on accidents and deaths in the workplace, obviously suggesting good practices and solutions to remedy these problems'.
