New gas detectors for a water company with iNet® Exchange
Gas detectors

Initial situation

One of the main Italian suppliers by water services and of waste water treatment, which manages several kilometres of water pipes, was equipped with a series of gas detectors that did not guarantee maximum protection to its workers, as they were characterised by frequent faults. The company also handled the maintenance and repair of the gas detectors, with a considerable expenditure of time. It had been necessary, in fact, to hire a technician solely to diagnose and resolve issues related to the detectors used by the operators. To attempt to alleviate this situation, the company turned to a external supplier, who, however, couldn't keep up with the volume of devices received and returned those repaired after months.

Solution

The workers could not continue to work under these conditions and the Equipment Manager sought an best solution. Based on the positive feedback received from colleagues at other companies, the employee chose Irbema to obtain the service iNet® Exchange by Industrial Scientific to replace defective monitors quickly and efficiently.

The company has changed the gas detectors in use with Ventis® Pro5 for general multi-gas monitoring and GasBadge® Pro for chlorine monitoring.

If not in use, the detectors are regularly connected to the DSX™ docking stations to perform basic maintenance, including calibration and bump testing. When unforeseen events occur, such as the detection of a faulty sensor, the docking stations automatically identify the malfunction and communicate with a replacement monitor with the same configuration, allowing the team to continue work without interruptions.

System Notifications iNet® Control they simplify user and device inventory management: the Manager now receives an email alert when a monitor is switched off, is in alarm, or when it hasn't been connected to the docking station for a specified period. With iNet Control, it's also possible to generate reports to track which users are assigned to monitors, when the last bump test or calibration was performed, if a pump is blocked, and much more. Keeping track of gas detector operation is no longer a problem, and the Manager knows exactly where any critical issues are occurring, allowing the team to intervene promptly if necessary.
