A university hospital in Lazio used an isolated worker protection system consisting of Twig Embody devices e Twig Beacon. The system was configured to send real-time emergency notifications to two separate operational teams: the resuscitators and the security personnel.
However, the system used was not sufficiently reliable and was not aligned with cybersecurity policies of the Entity.
This made it necessary to redesign the entire infrastructure to make it more robust and to ensure the appropriate level of confidentiality and IT security.
The University Hospital of Latium has decided to rely on a partner of Irbema, with the aim of introducing a solution that could guarantee simultaneous calls with low latency.
The proposal, developed following the indications provided by the various customer contacts (IT Manager, Information Systems Manager, RSPP, HSE Manager), is represented in the diagram below.

The system designed by Irbema involves the use of software Ir-Track su una coppia di macchine virtuali (VM1 e VM2) presso la sala server dell’Ente. La scelta di installare le macchine virtuali all’interno dell’infrastruttura di rete consente di impostare, tramite firewall, a high level of protection, allowing access only to traffic dedicated to the service.
The two virtual machines are equipped with a Virtual IP assigned by a traffic balancer that routes packets to the active machine. This ensures maximum redundancy with automatic addressing to the secondary machine in the event of failure of the primary.
Alarms are displayed and recorded on the Ir-Track platform; they are also forwarded to security and resuscitators via two Ir-Gateway (also installed in the network) equipped with a SIM card. Recipients receive a TTS (Text-to-Speech) voice message indicating the type of alarm and the last position detected by the worn device.
In order to maximise the reliability of the system and ensure the reception of alerts even in case of poor network coverage, a two-way transmissionThe first via GPRS connection addressed directly to the Ir-Track server; the second via SMS forwarded for redundancy to the two Ir-Gateways.

The operating status of all system elements is continuously monitored via the SNMP protocol (Simple Network Management Protocol), so that any malfunctions can be detected and the system and all levels of redundancy can be restored without service interruptions.
Access to the system is protected via the LDAP protocol (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) to ensure maximum confidentiality of information.
Thanks to the high complexity of the system and the integration of firewall architecture, the University Hospital can now guarantee the reliability of the alarm service.
