Auser Lecco and the elderly monitoring project
Monitoring-senior citizens

On the next 1st of July Auser Lecco will bequeath twenty elders of the Care Pro bracelets by SiDLYthe first European telecare equipment certified as class lla medical devices for the monitoring of the elderly. The association, which has been providing social services in the Lecco area for over thirty years, will support vulnerable people in the territory through the use of these new technologies, ensuring their maximum safety and peace of mind. The ultimate goal is to experiment with cutting-edge solutions to compensate for the shortage of healthcare personnel.

The project

For some time now, Auser Lecco has been supporting the elderly through the service โ€œsocial telephonyโ€œwhich has been quite successful: last year there were twenty thousand calls and have been received eleven thousand. Following this important request for assistance, the association then developed a ad hoc project for elderly monitoring, identifying the need to use devices that would constantly monitor the user and allow for timely intervention in case of need. The goal to be pursued, in fact, was to offer a service active from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM, thereby alleviating the emotional and organisational burden on families who cannot adequately care for their loved ones because they are busy with everyday life. Furthermore, the use of bracelets with the aforementioned characteristics allows the elderly to be more autonomous and independent, relying on uninterrupted assistance.

The solution for elderly monitoring

Assessing the situation in depth, Auser Lecco contacted Irbema to offer twenty vulnerable individuals the chance to try SiDLY's telehealth products. The devices were considered the best solution thanks to their advanced features for elderly monitoring. They, in fact, make it possible to:

  • Constantly measuring the vital parameters, such as oxygen saturation and heart rate
  • Automatically detect drops o maladies
  • Send a SOS alarm by pressing a dedicated button
  • Receive reminders of drug intake
  • Two-way communication
  • Locate in real time the user

Given the shortage of healthcare staff in the area, the project is the start of a much larger ambition: to create a Lecco Operations Centre. During the experimentation, data will be collected on the functioning of the devices, and then possibly extended to social policies.
