Efficiency and innovation at one of Italy's leading airports
One of the most important airports in Italy, which is also a major hubs in Europe, has evolved steadily over the years, focusing on operational efficiency and state-of-the-art technology to offer increasingly advanced services. Passengers enjoy numerous amenities, including duty-free shops, restaurants, public and private transport, and modern systems for check-in and passport control. In addition, the airport is a key reference point for the cargo transportas it handles a significant volume of cargo each year due to its strategic location, making it a major air traffic hub. Due to its width e structural complexity, the stopover is subject to continuous interventions maintenance and modernisation, often conducted in complex areas such as the underground tunnels under the runways, where the absence of connectivity makes it difficult to guarantee the full safety of operators. In these contexts, the protection of isolated workers represents a real challenge, requiring specific and effective technological solutions.
Twig One and Ir-Gateway for airport security
Given the particularity of the operational context, Twig One was chosen as the ideal solution to ensure the safety of isolated workers within the airport. Robust, lightweight and ergonomic, the device, IP67 certifiedIt offers high reliability combined with maximum user comfort. In a critical environment such as underground tunnels, where GSM connectivity is not available, Twig One stands out for its ability to interface with Wi-Fi access point. This feature proved decisive in the choice of the solution, making it particularly suitable for the specific communication and security requirements at airports.

To increase security in the airport tunnels, a Wi-Fi network was implemented TP-LINK composed of 73 access pointsin order to ensure complete coverage of the entire airport surface. Each Twig One device used was then assigned a unique identification number. Thanks to theIr-Gateway developed by Irbemawhich, unlike traditional telephone dialers, is fully programmable, it is possible to convert the alarm transmitted by a Twig One, via a specific Wi-Fi access point, into the contact number previously assigned to the device itself. This mechanism enables rapid identification of the area affected by the emergency and the worker involved. For example, if an alarm is sent via the thirty-second access point, the Ir-Gateway will automatically signal an emergency related to the thirty-second contact, thus simplifying intervention and rescue operations.

The advantages of the system
Connectivityย 2G/3G/4G of Twig One ensures effective communication in emergency situations such as mandown, no movement, fall, impact, voluntary alarm and amber alert for areas not covered by GSM signal. Once the alarm signal is sent, the position of the worker is also transmitted bothย indoorย whichย outdoorwhich, thanks to the new moduleย SRD3 turns out to be very accurate. Finally, Penta-Band, UMTS/HSPA+, LTE and two microphones with enhanced loudspeakers and vibration allow for anexcellent telephone quality and receptionย making Twig One perfectly usable even in the noisiest environments.
L'Ir-Gatewayon the other hand, being made up of numerous boards, it is a system fully scalable capable of receiving inputs (alarms, alerts, text messages and calls) from third parties and relaying them as notifications to other devices. Through theintuitive web interfaceIn addition to being able to view statistics on its use, it is possible to manage the gateway by configuring it, or by enabling and disabling the various available licences. Furthermore, thanks to the wide variety of available licences, there are countless application areas in which the Ir-Gateway can be used: industry, sound evacuation, corporate communications, optimisation of workflows and protection of isolated workers.
